Men with baseball bats and dogs have attacked a homeless campsite in Ashtown, Dublin just because it contained migrants.
This is the logical outcome of hate, fear, and misinformation – of online bloggers and conspiracy theorists giving free reign to preach hate and blame refugees for every ill in society.
Migrant workers, (most EU citizens) left homeless because of the crisis and still working, are set upon by racist thugs emboldened by months of fearmongering and lies online.
Everyone who shared the scare stories and vile attacks on refugees should think now:
Is this fixing our housing disaster? Is this making it easier to see a doctor? Is this getting us better wages? Is this challenging Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil? Is this putting a spotlight on the vulture funds and corporate landlords which have gutted our communities?
We should ask: is this what we want? Because this is exactly what the National Party and their vicious friends want.
This is our future unless we fight it. This is what dehumanisation leads to.
Reject the fear and lies which are being spread about migrants and refugees. Reject Racism.
Unite together to take on the real cause of our problems: the super wealthy and this right-wing Government which protects them.
