People Before Profit Td Gino Kenny To Call On Government To Support Inmo Calls On Mask Wearing At Promised Legislation Today

At Promised Legislation today, People Before Profit TD and Health spokesperson, Gino Kenny, will call on the government to respond positively and support the call made by the INMO about the reintroduction of mask wearing in certain settings.

Deputy Kenny will say: “There have been 63,954 new Covid-19 cases reported since St Patrick’s Day.

“The INMO stated that there are 660 people in our hospitals, for whom there is no bed. That’s a 15% increase in the last 24 hours alone and the highest daily number since the start of the pandemic.

“Frontline staff are exhausted, frustrated and they are falling ill.

“Ireland had some of the longest lockdowns in Europe because our health service was already pushed to breaking point before the pandemic began.

“The INMO has called for the reintroduction of mask wearing in crowded and public indoor settings to ease the pressure on nurses and midwives.

“Will you respond positively to this urgent plea from nurses and midwives?”
