Two years ago the majority of Dublin City Councillors voted to sell off valuable land on the Oscar Traynor Road in Coolock to the building firm, Glenveagh, for €14 million.
The 17-acre council site was worth €40 million so Glenveagh got it at a bargain basement price.
Those who voted for this scandalous deal came from Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, Green Party and Labour Party.
Glenveagh promised to build a mix of social and affordable homes. But the Irish Independent reports that just 81 of the 681 homes (12pc) were earmarked as social homes. And 172 (25pc) were to be “affordable” with a whopping 428 (63pc) to be provided to the developer for its own profitable sale.
And what price are the affordable homes? The “affordable” one-bed apartments would be €260k and two-beds would be €300k.
Remember: These are small one-bed and two-bed apartments!
It is not affordable at all – it is a scam. And the Councillors who voted for this need to be evicted from their positions.
