People Before Profit is among the parties and organisations endorsing the campaign and it has urged people to mobilise and put pressure on the Government to take meaningful cost-of-living actions.
Richard Boyd Barrett said:
“Prices have gone up by almost a quarter in the last 5 years and are the highest in the EU for many essentials, including food and energy.
“We learned today that grocery price inflation shot up to 6.8% at the end of 2025, an increase to its highest level since early 2024. This adds even more pressure on people who are already stretched to breaking point and the shameful Government’s failure to act will not be taken lying down.
“The Affordable Ireland Campaign will be launched tomorrow and will call for a national protest in Dublin later this month, with a focus on an emergency winter payment and a cost of disability payment.
“Further protests are planned to keep the pressure on the government to act. We urge people to join planned Affordable Ireland Campaign protests to demand that the Government takes meaningful cost of living measures”.
Paul Murphy said:
“The Affordable Ireland Campaign is being established to demand cost of living measures that would ease the financial distress being suffered by so many people, and People Before Profit is proud to endorse the campaign.
“This is an important opportunity for the parties of the left to work together again as we did so successfully on Catherine Connolly’s presidential election campaign.
“We will work energetically with all the member organisations to mobilise a large protest later this month and to pile the pressure on the government to take the measures needed to tackle the cost-of-living crisis”.
