People Before Profit Dublin MEP candidate Bríd Smith TD said “I have just written to the Ceann Comhairle to say that I am appalled to see that an Israeli flag is being showcased in Leinster House next to the Palestinian flag.
Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people and it is committing unspeakable war crimes on a daily basis.
The Israeli state reacted to the official recognition of Palestinian statehood by attempting to humiliate the Irish ambassador to Israel and by issuing threats against Ireland.
It is obscene that the flag of an apartheid state committing genocide be showcased in our parliament.
I have asked the Ceann Comhairle to immediately act to ensure that this flag is removed from Leinster House.
