Paul Murphy Condemns Government Silence on Trump’s Genocidal Threats

Will challenge Government in the Dáil on its ‘craven’ silence, failure to enact OTB, its blind eye to US in Shannon airport and plans to end Triple Lock. Irish people will resist being reduced to vassal state.

Overnight US President Donald Trump climbed down from his threat agains Iran that ‘A whole civilization will die tonight’.

The Irish Government made no comment on Trump’s genocidal threats.

People Before Profit’s Paul Murphy said:

“It is a relief today that Trump was forced to climb down from his explicitly genocidal threats against the people of Iran. But we are all aware that the US can return to its threats and extreme violence at any moment.

“It is an utter disgrace that Trump’s threats were met by silence from the Irish Government. The shameful reality is that the Government has been silent because it sees Ireland’s role as fulfilling the needs of US capital for electricity, tax avoidance facilities and labour, and the provision of airport facilities for the US military.

“This is the very essence of a vassal state, with a craven political establishment willing to settle for the roles as administrators for US interests and an annual photo op in the White House.

“The Dáil will return next week and People Before Profit will challenge the Government directly on its shameful silence in response to threats of genocide; on its failure, under US pressure, to enact the Occupied Territories Bill; on turning a blind eye to US military operations in Shanon and in our skies; and on its plans to end the triple lock as the precursor to embedding Ireland fully in the West’s military undertakings.

“The Irish people will not accept being reduced to a vassal state, and People Before Profit will give voice to that resistance.”

People Before Profit are calling on all members and supporters to protest on 18 April with the Irish Neutrality League.
