Planning Permission for the proposed Data Centre in Kilmeadan has been denied in a real victory for People Power.
Dated today 15 October 2026 Waterford City and County sent a planning decision addressed to Crag Rathnew DC Limited and Kent Homes Limited the applicants care of John Spain Associates stating they had refused permission to build the data centre in Kilmeadan, Co. Waterford.
This is a blow against the tech billionaires who profit off of data centres which are a huge net harm on the communities where they are placed. This one was particularly bad as it was to be set on the site of the former Kilmeadan Cheese factory whose operations have been moved to Kilkenny making this a residential village which would have been destroyed by the data centre, according to residents.
People Before Profit salute the campaigners who organised their slow-drive last week.
This story should be shared internationally as opposition to these environmentally damaging, wasteful eyesores are becoming a unifying common enemy for people fighting everywhere in the world today.
Their negative impacts are clear for the environment, our energy and water supply capacity, the cost of living, and for our democracy as they are gears and muscle behind the AI that can be used to target our democracies in key elections and conflicts, even as war machines for targeting and cyber warfare.
Well done to the Kilmeadan Campaigners. No more Data Centres. People Power works.
Below partial extracts of the decision seen by our members locally.
