Huge Protest Against Fascists In Dunmurry

One thousand people attended a protest in Dunmurry to show their outrage at the flying of a Nazi flag outside a local mosque.

The protest was organised by United Against Racism and sponsored by a variety of organisations.

Huge energetic efforts were put in by activists to ensure the success of the event. Anti-racist organisers hosted a delegation to the local Mosque – who were the subject of the vile Nazi propaganda – and spoke at the Friday prayers.

Visits were paid to other local churches to seek solidarity. Activists went door to door building support in the local community.

More than 20 organisations supported the rally, including major unions and a message of support from NIC-ICTU.

A special well done to Cllr Michael Collins who used his platform in the community to build support.

The rise of the far right in the last few years should be of great concern to all radicals and progressives. But there should be no cause for pessimism.

Saturday’s mobilisation in Dunmurry showed what can be achieved by bold, energetic activism and a commitment to bring people together in united action.

Well done to everyone who showed up, especially those from the local community.
