Dublin Mid-West Td Writes To Minister For Education Calling For Increase Of Funding For Secondary School Places In Constituency

Worried parents in contact with TD regarding school places for next September

People Before Profit TD for Dublin Mid-West, Gino Kenny, has written to the Minister for Education, Norma Foley, about local concerns about the availability of school places in his constituency for next September.

He has asked the Minister to clarify the situation for next September and to provide the necessary funding and resources to the Dublin Mid-West area so more places can be allocated.

Deputy Kenny has been contacted by a number of very concerned parents about the issue.

He said: “Parents of children due to attend secondary school in September have contacted our constituency office about the availability of school places for the next school year in the Mid-West area. These parents are very concerned because of the lack of spaces currently available.

“This issue is one of capacity in the existing schools. Every year parents are told that their child is on a waiting list, these lists seems to get larger by the year because of lack of capacity in the existing schools. And this is only exacerbated by more housing development in the locality which will mean an even greater demand for places.

“Simply put we need more school places in the area to satisfy the growing demand. I have asked that the Minister allocate more resources and funding to the Mid-West area so that these children can be guaranteed places for next year’s school term.”
