Direct Action On Climate Change “Not A Crime”

The Swedish authorities brought Greta Thunberg before the courts for daring to block oil trucks on their way to Malmo harbour.

As she appeared in court, the climate campaigner said, ‘ It’s correct that I was at that place on that day, and it’s correct that I received an order that I didn’t listen to, but I want to deny the crime.”

The court fined her for her action.

The real criminals are governments all over the world who keep talking about climate change and then doing nothing to stop the fossil fuel companies.

In Ireland, for example, the government, including the Green Party, opposed a bill to leave fossil fuels in the ground. They refuse to ban more data centres even though they consume vast amounts of energy.

Greta Thunberg was right to take direct action.

As the heat wave spreads across Europe, we need more action not less.

We need an international day of direct action that targets corporations and their governments.
