Call For Big Push From Government To Get Full State Control Of National Maternity Hospital

People Before Profit TD Bríd Smith has said that the government must pull out all the stops in order to achieve full state ownership and operation of the new National Maternity Hospital with no strings attached.

The TD said that nothing but full state ownership and control would satisfy the movement. The TD also said that there were thousands expected at a demonstration this weekend calling for the National Maternity Hospital to be fully public and state run with no religious influence.

She said: “The government now have a huge responsibility on their hands to make sure that the National Maternity Hospital is in public ownership, is run by the state and is free from religious influence or ethos.

“Nothing but full state ownership and operation will satisfy the repeal movement and the campaigners that have fought for years for secular healthcare and education.

“On Saturday it is expected that there will be thousands in attendance at the demonstration #MakeNMHOurs which is calling for the new hospital to be public and secular.”
