Ban Private Jets

More than 6,000 private jets left Irish airports last year.  They created 67,000 tons of carbon emissions. The average flight produced the same emissions as a car driven for 40,000 kilometres.

But the Green Party refuses to ban these flights.

Now Bríd Smith, People Before Profit TD, is introducing a bill to ban private jet travel over Irish air space. She said,

“It is completely unjust that ordinary people are bearing the brunt of the climate crisis, such as hikes in carbon taxes while having no real alternatives to change personal behaviour. The recent rejection by the government of fare free public transport is one example of this. Yet very wealthy people use private jets which are so destructive to the climate.”
