After Truss: Why An Assembly Election? We Need A General Election To Get Rid Of The Tories!

The British Secretary of State Chris Heaton-Harris is continuing the well-established Tory tradition of treating people in the North with contempt.

He is threatening to call an election in the North that few people want, and that people expect will change very little.

A December Stormont election has nothing to do with helping people in a cost-of-living crisis. The Tories want to inflict even more cuts and more misery.

It has nothing to do with challenging the DUP on its reckless and selfish boycott of Stormont.

The DUP props up the Tories and the Tories prop up the DUP no matter the consequences for people in all our communities here.

There is a legitimate demand for an election in Britain itself after Prime Minister, Liz Truss resigned. Despite hundreds of years of experience of rule, the Tories are in a shambles.

They are a faction-ridden party that fantasises about making Britain great again. But their internal rows are just one reflection of the decline of British capitalism.

It is time that their overlordship of the North also came to an end.
