Kranthi Ireland, a cultural organisation who are associated to care and health workers in Ireland, organised today's peaceful demonstration to draw public attention to the ongoing delays and backlog in Irish Residence Permit (IRP) renewals, an issue that continues to affect many members of migrant communities across Ireland.

The protest was organised following months of uncertainty experienced by migrants due to delays in the renewal of their IRP cards. These delays have caused significant difficulties for individuals and families, particularly in relation to international travel, employment verification, and family commitments.

Over the past months, Kranthi Ireland has actively engaged with relevant authorities to seek a resolution to the issue. The organisation contacted the Immigration Department and the office of the Minister for Justice to highlight the concerns of affected migrants. In addition, Kranthi organised a public petition campaign that received the support of more than 1,500 people calling for urgent action. The matter was also raised in Dáil Éireann by opposition TDs following engagement from the organisation.

While assurances were received from the Minister for Justice that the matter would be addressed, along with a temporary extension of the travel advisory until the end of February, migrant communities continue to face uncertainty as the backlog remains unresolved and no clear timeline for resolution has been provided.

Today’s peaceful protest was held to highlight the seriousness of the issue and to urge the government to take immediate and concrete steps to resolve the IRP renewal backlog. Participants emphasised the need for a transparent and time-bound solution to ensure that migrant workers and their families are not left in prolonged uncertainty.

Kranthi Ireland reiterates its commitment to continuing engagement with the government and relevant authorities until meaningful progress is made on resolving the issue.
