We Need An Uprising Against Hardship Crisis

People Before Profit Cllr Shaun Harkin:

“Workers and the least well-off have been hit with another raft of massive energy cost hikes this week.

“To say that this will push more people into a hardship crisis and destitution is a massive understatement.

“Westminster and Stormont has done next to nothing to protect those – the vast majority of people – who need help.

“Profits for major energy corporations are going through the roof but there’s no pay rises for workers, no government hardship fund, no price caps, no Wealth Tax or Windfall Taxes and no plan to put energy companies under public control.

“We urge people to join the Cost of Living Crisis protest organised by Derry Against Fuel Poverty tomorrow 3pm Waterloo Place.

“We need cost of living crisis protests in every town and city. We urge workers to follow the example set by Foyle Port workers and many since to plan action for pay rises.

“When it comes to winning change for working class communities, collective action through people power has always been the key. It’s no different now.

“We need an uprising across the island against the political establishment’s indifference to the hardship crisis, against corporate greed and against runaway inequality.”
