People Before Profit is calling on people across Ireland to mobilise behind the Sanctions Against the State of Israel Bill 2026 — a historic piece of legislation that would impose comprehensive economic sanctions on the Israeli state for genocide, apartheid and ethnic cleansing.
The Bill, which will be debated in the Dáil on 14th May and voted on on 20th May, is the first proposal in any Western parliament to fully sanction all economic relations with Israel. It would ban trade, investment, financial dealings and state-linked economic activity with Israel, in line with Ireland’s obligations under the Genocide Convention and international law.
For almost three years, the people of Gaza have faced genocidal destruction: mass killing, starvation, displacement and the obliteration of civilian infrastructure. Israel has also expanded its war across the region, including devastating attacks on Lebanon and Iran. Despite this, Western governments — including the Irish Government — continue to maintain economic and political relations with Israel.
That has to end.
People Before Profit has now launched a public petition calling on TDs to vote for the Bill:

We are also urging supporters to mobilise for two key demonstrations:
- IPSC national demonstration, Saturday 16th May, 2pm, Garden of Remembrance
- Protest outside Leinster House, Wednesday 20th May, 5:30pm, before the Dáil vote
Ireland intervened in South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. If those words are to mean anything, they must be matched by action. The time for statements is over. The time for sanctions is now.
