The ASTI are right to ballot for industrial action to force this government to make our schools safe.
Up to now if a pupil tested positive for Covid-19 they were not deemed a close contact of the teacher. The ASTI have demanded that if that pupil is in the presence of the teachers for more than 15 minutes, they must be deemed a close contact.
They are also insisting that older or vulnerable teachers have a right to conduct their classes online though blended learning. They also want all pupils to be provided with the necessary IT.
Following the vote a new Facebook page has been set up by activists in the union.
