Td Calls For Government To Prioritise Vaccination Of 60-69-Year Olds As Delta Variant Could Lead To Significant Issues For Older Unvaccinated Cohorts

People Before Profit TD, and Health spokesperson, Gino Kenny, has called on the government to urgently prioritise the 60-69-year-old cohort as the Delta variant begins to circulate around the country.

The TD made the call whilst adding that the Delta variant could pose a significant danger to those who have not yet been fully vaccinated.

He said: “With the presence of the Delta variant confirmed in this country and seeing the issues it is causing in the U.K, with the Johnson government’s Scientific Advisory Group issuing a consensus statement that this variant is 60% more transmissible, it is now incumbent on the government to prioritise the completion of the vaccination programme for the 60-69 cohort in particular. People of this cohort and other older and vulnerable people who have not gotten their double vaccination could be in a precarious position if the vaccine is not fully administered.  The government need urgently complete the vaccination of these cohorts.”
