Ulster University Students Union have staged a protest at Stormont today to demand Stormont supports student health heroes.
People Before Profit Councillor Maeve O’Neill said, ‘Solidarity with the student health and social care heroes who are protesting at Stormont today.
Without students we would not have more health and social care workers. Supporting students is essential to the future of our health and social care service. Students deserve better. They have continued their education throughout the pandemic and contributed valuably on the wards and throughout the health and social care service.
We need to recruit more workers to the health and social care service but the Stormont Executive’s mistreatment of students is furthering the workforce issues we are experiencing.’
Ulster University Students Union are demanding:
- An increase of bursary for nursing and midwifery students to reflect current living costs.
- Access of financial support available for all social work students.
- A full review of the access to finance available for Allied Health Professional (AHP) students.
- Fully funded Graduate Entry Medicine courses in NI, as with Scotland’s accelerated programme
