Statement on the Sydney Attack

Richard Boyd Barrett said:
'The horrific and murderous attack on the Jewish Hannukah celebration at Bondi Beach in Sydney must be utterly condemned.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the friends and families of the deceased and the wider Jewish community.

Antisemitism and antisemitic violence have no place in a civilised world and must be condemned and opposed without question.

We should also pay tribute to the incredible courage and heroism of Ahmad Al Ahmad who bravely tackled the attackers at risk to his own life.

The attempts of Netanyahu and others to blame those who advocate for Palestinian statehood or who condemn Israel’s genocidal crimes against Palestinians are totally reprehensible and dangerous.

Clear and principled opposition to antisemitism should go hand in hand with opposition to all forms of racism, apartheid and ethnic cleansing.
