Northside Home Care workers provide vital support to young disabled adults and older adults in need of care in our community. Yet they are paid barely above the minimum wage. That’s 30% less than other workers for doing the same job.
It's not ok. They need to fix the pay.
Following 2009 austerity measures, the home care workers’ pay was cut and not restored to adequate current levels of pay, so they are at the sharp edge of the cost of living crisis.
Since January, Northside Home Care workers have been striking to demand the 9% pay increase granted to other Section 39 workers (those in charitable and not-for-profit organisations).
The State must support the vital care work that these workers provide in our community.
We are support this strike 100% and ask that you do too.
