Dublin South West People Before Profit TD, Paul Murphy, has urged people to attend a protest called by the Save Our Sorting Office campaign at 12 noon on Saturday to stop the move of the Edmonstown sorting office to Lucan.

Deputy Murphy said:

“This proposal to move the sorting office from Edmonstown to Lucan makes no sense for the people of Rathfarnham, Knocklyon and Whitechurch. Travelling to Edmondstown is already a challenge for many residents - the idea that they would now have to make their way to Lucan just to collect a parcel is absurd. It would mean a dramatic reduction in quality of postal service, with more parcels not delivered, as staff are stuck on the M50 back to Dublin 16 from Lucan.

“But this isn’t just an inconvenience for residents. The workers at the Edmondstown sorting office have dedicated years, even decades of service to this community. Their jobs, their commutes, and their work-life balance would all be severely disrupted by this decision. They deserve better.

“Over 4,400 people have signed a petition to oppose this move. The campaign has now called a protest for this Saturday and is encouraging as many people as possible to attend.”
