The Irish Anti-War Movement has called a protest against the US war on Iran at 5pm this evening, Thursday, 12th March at the US Embassy.
Richard Boyd Barrett is President of the Irish Anti-war Movement and he will speak at the protest to demand an end to the US war on Iran and an immediate end to the US military’s use of Shannon airport.
Richard Boyd Barrett said:
“The United States and Israel have been engaged in a coordinated, unprovoked attack on Iran for almost 2 weeks. Over 1,300 civilians have been killed and over 17,000 injured in Iran, including 170 schoolgirls who were bombed, almost certainly by the US, while they were in class.
“We are witnessing barbaric, imperialist violence by the United States and its client state, Israel. This is happening while the Taoiseach Micheál Martin is preparing to go to the White House to give shamrocks to the monstrous war monger that is Donald Trump.
“This comes as Israel, armed to the teeth by the United States, continues its genocidal onslaught against the people of Palestine and Gaza.
“Our national day must not be used to greenwash Trump and his wars of aggression and arming of genocide. It will be a travesty and a national embarrassment. Trump is a war criminal, and I repeat our call for the St Patrick’s Day engagement to be cancelled.
“It is a scandal that successive Governments have allowed the US military to use Shannon airport. This shameful complicity by the Irish State in US wars in Iran and elsewhere has undermined our neutrality for over 20 years. It should never have been allowed and it must end now.
“It should also be noted that the effects of all this are not contained in the Middle East. The reckless, violent acts of the US and Israel are driving up massive hikes in energy costs and inflicting huge financial strain on ordinary people here.
“It is vitally important that we continue to protest to demand an end to Ireland’s complicity in the death and destruction inflicted on the people of Iran, the Middle East and Palestine, and I urge people to join us at this evening’s Irish Anti-war Movement protest”.
This evening’s protest is supported by a wide range organisations, including the following;
· Peace & Neutrality Alliance (PANA)
· Action from Ireland (Afri)
· Mothers against Genocide
· Pals for Palestine
· Teachers for Palestine
· Irish Health Care Workers for Palestine
· Your Tech = Their Deaths
