Richard Boyd Barrett TD said,

"I'll be going to Derry this weekend to mark the 54th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday when 14 Civil Rights marchers were murdered by the British Army.

“The British government spent decades trying to cover-up this massacre, using the most vile lies. They spent more than £4.3 million to defend Soldier F, one of the British Army Parachute Regiment Bloody Sunday killers, who disgracefully wasn't convicted last year.

“This shows you the lengths to which the British state will go to hide its crimes and make sure no one from government, their army generals and officers and those who pulled the trigger are ever held to account.

“They refuse to be held accountable for what they did in Derry because they continue to commit massacres elsewhere across the world. Their complicity with Israel's war crimes in Gaza is the most obvious example. The Legacy Act was another attempt by the British government to make sure its state killers would never be held to account.

“I want to send my solidarity to the Bloody Sunday families and the campaigners who have never relented in their pursuit of the truth, accountability and justice. These campaigners are an inspiration and people from across Ireland will join them for the Bloody Sunday March for Justice at 2.30pm in Derry this Sunday.

“We know people in Derry are angry that Soldier F wasn't found guilty - but we know, and the world knows, that he is guilty no matter what a court has decided. Our message is that there should be no more Bloody Sundays. No more massacres for empire. Not in Ireland, not in Gaza, not in Greenland, Venezuela or anywhere. No more war for empire.

“And this is why it is so important for us to stand against Trump's imperial aggression, his threats of war, his support for Israel's barbarism in Palestine - and the murder of US residents in Minneapolis by ICE agents.

“We should not be in the White House on St Patrick's Day with a tyrant who is declaring war on the world and the people of the United States. We should be in Derry with the families of those murdered on Bloody Sunday. We should be sending a message of solidarity to Americans opposing Trump's warmongering and ICE vigilantism."
