Resist Evictions: Support Tathony House Residents

Residents in Tathony House have called a protest for 3pm this Saturday, April 22nd.

As it stands, the landlord intends to sell the apartment block and make over 100 tenants in 35 units homeless. In most European countries landlords are simply not allowed to evict tenants simply because they want to sell up and think they’ll get a higher price if the property is vacant.

This is shamefully not the case in Ireland. Even with record numbers homeless, record low availability, record high rental prices, and record numbers of termination notices the Government has twice voted to end an already inadequate eviction ban. To add salt to the wound they also voted through yet more tax breaks for landlords at the same time.

Tathony house residents have vowed to stay in their homes, they will not make themselves homeless, and will overhold if necessary.

People Before Profit fully support the tenants and encourage others to support their protest and take inspiration from their example.
