Pushing Back Against The Far Right

Pushing Back Against The Far Right

A tiny number of far-right activists are travelling around the country. Their aim is to spread lies which pretend that asylum seekers are a danger to women.

Their record, however, tells its own story. These are people who opposed divorce, repeal and marriage equality. They have no history of standing up for women’s rights.

But their rhetoric has led to increased attacks on migrants. We need to drive them back:

In Sligo, this week a broad coalition of anti-racists outnumbered the far right and challenged their lies openly.

In Castlebar, United Against Racism called a solidarity rally with asylum seekers. One far-right activist, Stephen Kerr, called on his supporters to ‘question’ the organisers. In the end, the anti-racists faced down a pathetic handful of individuals.

In Kilkenny, anti-racists gathered together at a spot where the far right attempted a mobilisation. They vastly outnumbered them.

Racism is no ordinary political creed. It needs to be actively countered.
