The government and Irish Water often boast about a high registration rate for Irish water.
People before Profit has information that these registrations of names and addresses were not all registrations made by the occupier.
According to Cllr Brid Smith "In perhaps more than 20% of cases the registrations were made by special software (robots) fetching information from public websites and other data sources and then uploading to Irish water.
These specialised data collectors were used to artificially bump up the registration rate as claimed by the government and the company."
Cllr Smith has called for full transparency on the figures.
"Irish Water needs to come clean on the facts and tell the public the truth of how they are pushing up the rate of registration and what systems they are using on the internet.
Real registration figures would reveal a high rate of non compliance with Irish Water and would be a measure of the dynamic boycott campaign that the Government are facing on the water charges".
