People Before Profit representative Teresa Collins extends deepest sympathy to those affected by the horrific killing of Jamey Carney

Epidemic of domestic violence against women is a consequence of deeply misogynistic attitudes to women

Jamey Carney was found dead in her home in Killarney yesterday. Investigations indicate that she was killed in a violent attack.

Jamey is the eighth woman killed in the State this year, exceeding the seven women killed in 2025.

People Before Profit local representative Teresa Collins extended deepest sympathy to those affected by Jamey’s killing.

Teresa Collins said

“On behalf of People Before Profit Kerry, we extend our deepest sympathy to all those who are affected by the horrific killing of Jamey Carney. We are heart broken by her death.

“Eight women have now been killed in Ireland this year, already exceeding the seven women killed in 2025. The Women’s Aid Femicide Watch shows that 87% of women killed, where the case has been resolved, were killed by a man known to them.

“One in four women in Ireland have experienced sexual violence as an adult from an intimate partner, and more than one in three women have experienced psychological, physical and/or sexual abuse from a partner.

“This epidemic of domestic violence against women is a consequence of the deeply misogynistic attitudes to women and girls that continue to pervade society.

“While women have won important rights and changes in attitudes in recent decades, we remain far short of the just and equal society, free from discrimination and misogyny, that we deserve and demand. We will remember Jamey and demand justice for her as we continue to fight for a better society.”
