“We should all be alarmed at the near-fatal shooting of a vulnerable person by the PSNI last weekend in Gobnascale.
People Before Profit has called on the Mayor to convene an emergency meeting of the Derry and Strabane Council.
The pandemic has put a spotlight on longstanding policing problems.
Many examples, from the discriminatory PSNI crackdown on Black Lives Matter protests, heavy-handed actions in Creggan and selective enforcement of covid rules has raised very serious questions about policing and accountability.
Students and health workers have been targeted, sometimes demonised, for covid breaches but the same has not applied to powerful corporations who’ve endangered workers safety or those in powerful political positions.
Police discrimination and violence is unacceptable and must be challenged.”
