Minutes from Translink’s board meeting have revealed the firm is projecting a £47m loss for 2026/27, whilst they’re simultaneously consulting on a variety of service & fare cuts. As reported by Belfast Telegraph.

“It’s shocking to hear the desperate situation with Translink. This long-running model of underinvestment is clearly failing. Translink receives half the funding similar providers do across Ireland & Britain, whether per capita or per journey.
“At a time of sharpening cost-of-living, energy & climate crises, we need to seriously improve public transport, not take an axe to it. Andy Burnham is proposing to lower bus fares, yet here in the North Translink are set to increase them. With further cuts to services & routes too.
“Use Unite Action Network’s tool to respond to the consultation and sign the Act Now petition. Like with the campaign to save the senior travel pass, we in People Before Profit will be agitating in the streets along with trade unions to force a retreat on these plans and for proper investment in public transport.”
