People Before Profit would like to convey congratulations to the school secretaries who achieved a substantial victory in their fight for pay equality today. It was announced today that the Department of Education has agreed to put school secretaries on the public service clerical officer pay scale.
PBP’s spokesperson on Employment Rights, Paul Murphy TD, said that the group should continue their campaign in order to achieve pension rights.
Paul Murphy TD said: “People Before Profit would like to pass on our congratulations to the school secretaries and caretakers who have won a significant victory today in their fight for pay equality. This concession from the Department shows that when workers fight, and particularly when they prepare to take strike action, they can achieve major victories.
“I would say that whilst this is a great day for not only school secretaries and caretakers, but all workers. The group should now continue their struggle to gain pension rights that are sadly still lacking.”
