Paul Murphy to March to Rafah Crossing

The Global March to Gaza march is a peaceful, humanitarian civilian response to Israel’s genocide in Gaza. The march of thousands will highlight the complicity of governments worldwide in Israel’s genocide and will demand that aid is allowed enter Gaza. This comes after the seizing of the Madleen and kidnapping of those trying to deliver humanitarian aid by sea.

An estimated 3,000 people will be on the march, including a delegation of about 50 from Ireland. People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy will be part of the group from Ireland.

They will gather in Cairo on Thursday and travel from Cairo to reach Rafah by Sunday, 15th June.

People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy said “Thousands of participants from around the world are travelling to Egypt to participate in the Global March to Gaza. I am proud to be participating as part of the Irish delegation. This is people taking action because their governments refuse to act. Western governments, including the Irish government, have not only failed, but have been and continue to be complicit in Israel’s genocide”.

“I will arrive in Cairo on Thursday and travel to Al Arish on Friday. We will walk the 48 kilometres through the Sinai desert from Al Arish to arrive at Rafah on Sunday where we will press for the opening of the Rafah terminal to allow the humanitarian aid that is blocked at Rafah to finally enter Gaza and relieve the starvation facing the Palestinian people”.

“The aid must be allowed to enter and Israel must stop using starvation as a weapon of war. The blockade must be lifted and the genocide halted”.

“We will also highlight the fact that despite their words, our government refuses to sanction Israel; it facilitates the sale of Israel’s war bonds; it does nothing to stop flights through Irish airspace with munitions bound for Israel, even when handed the evidence of the munitions carried on each flight;  it has delayed the Occupied Territories Bill for over six years and now is attempting to significantly water it down, by excluding the majority of trade with the occupied territories. This is complicity”.
