O'Neill: Derry Families Being Hammered By Home Insurance Price-Gouging

Despite families being hammered by a cost-of-living crisis, insurance companies are engaging in what can only be described as price-gouging, says People Before Profit's Maeve O'Neill.

People Before Profit Representative Maeve O’Neill said,

‘Households in Derry and across the Council District now pay the second highest home insurance costs in the UK, despite topping poverty charts with persistently low income. It is shocking and bewildering that homeowners in Derry are paying three times the average.

Despite families being hammered by a cost-of-living crisis, insurance companies are engaging in what can only be described as price-gouging.

The costs being put on families in Derry will only serve to throw more families into insecurity and place unjustifiable financial burdens on them.

Once again we find the Stormont Executive sitting on its hands, more interested in grabbing an unjustifiable 27% pay hike for MLAs, instead of acting to curb price gouging and stop the rip-off of working-class households."
