This morning the HSE published a report on a clinical review of 62 children who underwent orthopedic surgery. Deputy Paul Murphy expressed concern at the findings and called for publication of the Nayagam report. He also called for child patients operated on in or before 2016 and adult patients to be included in the review.
Deputy Paul Murphy said “The first phase of the Nayagam report appears to include extremely concerning findings suggesting that two thirds of those reviewed had a problem with their surgery. This report should be published, with the only redactions being to protect the identity of patients.
“The announcement that there will now be a look-back at individual surgeries of children between 2016 and 2023 is not good enough. I have been contacted by an adult patient who feels that she was mistreated by the Doctor who’s procedures are under review. There is no good reason why child patients operated on before 2016 should be excluded, nor why adult patients should be excluded.”
