"The news that 50,000 families are now languishing on the social housing waiting list - with over 33,000 classified as officially homeless - should shame every minister sitting in Stormont," Gerry Carroll said. "This isn't a crisis that crept up on anyone. It is the direct result of years of inaction, underfunding and political ineptitude."
"While Gordon Lyons talks in vague platitudes about public land and affordable rent schemes, families are trapped in temporary accommodation, with taxpayers footing an ever-growing bill that lines the pockets of private landlords profiting obscenely from this misery. That money should be building homes, rather than subsidising greed."
"Tinkering at the edges will not fix this crisis. We need rent controls and an immediate ban on no-fault evictions to stop people being pushed onto the waiting list in the first place. We need a serious, fully-funded programme of social house building. We need to bring the thousands of empty homes sitting derelict across the North back into use without further delay."
"Missed targets each and every year are a luxury 50,000 households cannot afford. The time for action is long overdue."
