Meat Plant Workers Sacrificed For Profit

Over 800 workers in the meat plants have tested  positive for Covid-19. Last week the number of cases  jumped by a staggering 300.

Meanwhile, the Fine Gael led government and Agriculture Minister, Michael Creed, stand back as workers lives are put in danger.

The reality is that the state and the meat barons are collaborating to put a lid on the scandal. They have:

·         Encouraged workers who showed symptoms of Covid-19 to go to work – failing to lay them off on full pay.

·         Then they introduced mass testing – but gave the results to the employers first.

·         They have done nothing to ensure that workers with Covid 19  can isolate when they go home.

The meat plants must be closed down for two weeks so they are deep cleaned and new safety measures are put in place.  Workers should get full pay during this period.

If this is not done, infections will increase in both the plants and the surrounding areas.
