People Before Profit Deputy Paul Murphy said “The statements from the Government in response to the US’s act of international terrorism are a shocking indictment of a government that is determined to white-wash the violence of the United States.
“The US has attacked a sovereign nation and kidnapped the head of state and his wife but Micheál Martin and the Government haven’t uttered a single word of condemnation.
“The government of Spain joined Brazil and other countries issued a statement rejecting 'the unilateral military operations in Venezuela’, but Micheál Martin has remained silent on this.
“This failure is because the perpetrator of the violence is the United States. The hypocrisy of the Government could not be any clearer. They trot out inanities about the ‘international rules based order’ while the US, that Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael refer to as an ally, attacks sovereign nations with complete impunity.
“The kidnapping of President Maduro and his wife by the US is a shocking violation of Venezuelan sovereignty and a war crime committed by a terrorist state seeking oil and colonial power.
“As the Spanish and Brazilian Governments have done, the Irish Government must immediately and unequivocally reject the US attack on Venezuela and demand the release of President Maduro”.
