Government Must Show Clear Vaccination Contingency Plan Following Precautionary Astrazeneca Deferral

Government must reassure people who have received AZ vaccine in this country

People Before Profit spokesperson on Health Gino Kenny TD has called on the government to clearly outline a contingency plan for vaccination procurement and rollout following the news this morning that NIAC has advised that Ireland pause the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine as a precautionary measure.

The TD also called on the government to provide reassurance and support for those who have received the AstraZeneca vaccine in this country.

Gino Kenny TD said: “Now that NIAC have advised a precautionary, temporary pause on the AstraZeneca rollout, added to the shockingly poor delivery by the company of the vaccine, I am calling on the government to outline a clear plan for vaccine rollout in the event that the AstraZeneca vaccine is not approved or in the event that the company continue to fail to meet their delivery targets and promises for Ireland.

“It is incumbent on the government to plan for all eventualities and we also need to hear what they are doing to procure more vaccine from sources other than AstraZeneca.

“Over 100,000 people in this country have received the AstraZeneca vaccine in this country. The government need to immediately provide these people with reassurance and support following the advice by NIAC to temporarily pause the rollout of the AstraZeneca vaccine.”
