Gerry Carroll has rejected the Secretary of State's call for compromise on the Garvaghy Road.
Carroll said: "Chris Bryant talks about finding a compromise where everyone walks away with their honour intact. Residents of the Garvaghy Road have nothing left to compromise. They have already given 28 years of quiet, and this week they were asked to hand over their safety and their dignity as well.
"There is no halfway house between a community's right to live in peace and an attempt to dominate it. Describing this as mediation doesn’t change the outlandish ask of residents. The Secretary of State says nobody has asked him to use his powers, but he could act tonight if he wants to.
"Residents are standing on their road again this evening in the cold, because every institution that was supposed to protect them has failed them. Their courage and their discipline have been extraordinary. They have asserted their rights themselves when nobody else would, and People Before Profit will keep standing with them for as long as it takes."
