People Before Profit candidate Denman Rooke will officially launch his Galway West by-election campaign on Monday 13th of April at 7pm in the Ol’ 55 on Prospect Hill. His campaign calls on voters to “Demand a Galway We Can Live In”.
Denman is a socialist activist who lives with his wife and child in Galway city. He works as a commercial artist and designer. As a trade union activist, and proud member of the Community Action Tenants Union, he is a consistent campaigner for worker’s rights, anti-racism, anti-imperialism, climate action, cost of living, and housing.
Denman’s campaign demands immediate rent reductions and rent controls, a ban on evictions, and a ban on short-term lets to immediately address the housing crisis. In tandem, he calls for the creation of a state construction company, scaled-up as quickly as possible to build the tens of thousands of public houses and apartments that we desperately need. He also calls for price controls on energy, food and other essential goods to slash the cost of living.
He points to the genocide in Gaza, the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, and the illegal war in Iran, as key examples of why Ireland must steadfastly protect its neutrality from the cynical efforts by Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael to dismantle it to align Ireland with the US and NATO interests.
Speakers on the night will include well known People Before Profit TD, Richard Boyd Barrett, along with music provided by local artist Áine Tyrrell.
