France: This Is How To Fight

French workers are setting an example for us all.

Macron is raising the pension age to make it necessary to work for 43 years to gain a full pension.

There have been protests in over 1,500 cities and a massive wave of strikes.

Two-thirds of people are opposed to Macron’s ‘reform’. But he has created a political crisis by imposing his measure by decree. He refused to allow a vote on the measure in the parliament.

Celine a trade unionist with the CGT sums it up,

“There has been a denial of democracy. Macron thinks of himself as a kind of king, Jupiter up high looking down on us. We’ve got to hold out until he listens”.

What a contrast with Ireland. Here the unions meekly accepted an increase in the pension age to 68. At the last election, there was so much outrage that it was lowered to 66 – but will eventually go up again to 67.

We need to bring it back to 65 – and let people decide voluntarily whether they wish to retire or not.
