Eamonn McCann – Pat Finucane Murdered By British State: MI5’s Policing Role “Intolerable”

People Before Profit Cllr Eamonn McCann:

“It was always a racing certainty that the British Government would refuse to hold a public inquiry into the murder of Pat Finucane.

Killing citizens and then moving heaven and earth to stop the truth coming out has been the hallmark of imperialism for centuries.

The key mission of the intelligence services is precisely to keep State murder hidden – from their “own” people as much as from the world at large.

MI5 was among the agencies involved in the Finucane murder. This makes the current status of MI5 in the North intolerable

MI5 has “primacy” here over all aspects of policing when “national security” is involved. And it’s left to MI5 to determine what comes under the heading of “national security.” In other words, they can do what they want and are answerable to nobody.

Certainly, they are not answerable to the Policing Board. For as long as this remains the case, members of the Policing Board should be asking themselves what’s the point of being part of this set-up.”
