Denman Rooke: US WAR MACHINE OUT OF SHANNON

“Ordinary people in Ireland want no part in the terrorist campaigns of the US, why won’t the Irish government listen? If Spain, a NATO country, can refuse the use of their airbases to the US military, why can't Ireland?"

Denman Rooke: US WAR MACHINE OUT OF SHANNON

Galway West By-Election candidate Denman Rooke has reiterated People Before Profit's call for Ireland to revoke US military access to Shannon Airport.

This follows recent reports from the Ditch that two US Air Force aircraft made a stop at Shannon Airport, prior to flying straight to Ramstein Airbase, the main European hub used to transport weapons for use against Iran. This occurred on the same day as a US-backed Israeli airstrike on a school, which killed more than 180 children.

"For years we have protested the use of Shannon Airport by the US military, on their imperialist escapades to Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Yemen, and now Iran" said Rooke.

“Ordinary people in Ireland want no part in the terrorist campaigns of the US, why won’t the Irish government listen? If Spain, a NATO country, can refuse the use of their airbases to the US military, why can't Ireland?"

Micheál Martin's recent comments in the Dáil also drew Rooke's ire. "It is clear that the Taoiseach is unashamedly ignoring the wishes of the people of Ireland because Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael aspire to join NATO and prop up US hegemony across the globe.”

Rooke added “it is abundantly clear to everyone that tethering Ireland to a runaway train is not in the best interests of the Irish, and riding on the coattails of America is no substitute for policy.”

“It is more important than ever,” concluded Rooke, “that voters in the upcoming Galway West By-Election Vote Left and Transfer Left. This isn’t about sending the government a message, it’s about fighting for hope, for our future”.
