Councillor Gino Kenny ecstatic as the People Before Profit Alliance take a significant step forward in local elections

NEWLY elected Clondalkin Councillor, Gino Kenny celebrated the huge gains his People Before Profit Alliance party made in the local elections by declaring that he ‘can’t wait to rock the boat’.

The party claimed five council seats in Dublin after the votes were tallied on Saturday, June 6, and three of the councillors have already set out plans to make an impact in the city council and in South Dublin.

Gino Kenny’s success was emulated in Ballyfermot/ Drimnagh by Bríd Smith, who took almost 20 per cent of the first preference votes, and in Crumlin/ Kimmage by Joan Collins.
Gino waved a Palestinian flag aloft as he learned of his election and vowed to make social justice and the mast campaign in North Clondalkin his main priorities.
Speaking on Monday, June 8, he said: "I know (the council meetings) will be a talk shop but our idea is to do the real work out in the community. "A couple of years of turbulence will make things very interesting in the council."
Bríd Smith says the first task she has as a councillor will be on June 15 when the council convene to elect a new mayor.
She jokes that she may put her own name forward for election and adds that she will rely on the advice of party colleague Joan Collins as she settles into her new role and ‘works as hard as I can’. For Joan Collins, the burning issues at present are retaining the children’s hospital in Crumlin and ensuring that the people who voted for her are well represented on the council.
