Responding to news that Nigel Farage has resigned as an MP, triggering a by-election in Clacton, Gerry Carroll said:
"Nigel Farage has spent his entire career posturing as a plucky outsider taking on a corrupt establishment. That con is falling apart in real time. This is a man caught with his hand in the pockets of dodgy crypto billionaires and convicted fraudsters, benefitting from millions in gifts that he tried to keep hidden from the public.
"For all his talk of smashing the cosy consensus, Farage is the establishment. He's every bit as sleazy and corrupt as the people he pretends to oppose. He dresses himself up as a free-thinking renegade and a voice for ordinary working people, all while being bankrolled by the mega-rich.”
“Farage has spent decades hopping from one right-wing outfit to the next - from the Tories, UKIP, the Brexit Party and Reform - vying for power and walking away when it suits him. He is nothing more than a grifter, in politics for his own enrichment and ego.”
"It is galling to listen to Farage whining about intimidation of himself and his family. This is a man who has built his whole career whipping up racist and bigoted hatred - the very same hatred that saw migrant families driven out of their burning homes here in the North just weeks ago. He is happy to stoke the fire, but squeals the moment he feels the heat himself.”
"The people of Clacton now have a chance to send a message heard far beyond Essex. They can use this by-election to reject the politics of hate and division peddled by Farage, Reform and Restore Britain. Ordinary people of every background have nothing to gain from these millionaire con men. Our answer to their poison has always been the same: a movement built on working-class unity and solidarity, strong enough to see them off for good."
