Gerry Carroll has condemned Donald Trump's decision to tear up the ceasefire with Iran and launch fresh strikes, calling it “a criminal act of imperialist aggression."
“Donald Trump has ripped up the Iran ceasefire agreement and rained fresh bombs on Iran. Now he is openly threatening worse, including the destruction of civilian infrastructure and starving a nation into submission. Trump is brazenly announcing these are war crimes from the podium of a NATO summit, while he brands Iranians ‘sick’. This is the language of an empire that treats human life as disposable and the Middle East as an endless oil field to be plundered.”
“The US’s war on Iran was never about nuclear weapons and it was certainly not about human rights, given that the US arms some of the most brutal regimes on earth. It was always about control of Gulf oil and raw US power. Thousands of ordinary Iranians have already been slaughtered so that Trump and the arms dealers who bankroll him can turn a profit.”
“This is a war on working class people everywhere. Every missile fired drives up fuel and food prices in homes across west Belfast, while Lockheed Martin's shareholders and Trump's own family cash in.”
“Britain and Ireland are no innocent bystanders. Westminster and the Dáil service this war machine, and weapons components made right here in the north feed the very supply chains bombing Iran and Gaza. There is no neutrality when factories and airbases serve empire.”
“People Before Profit stands in full solidarity with the people of Iran, Palestine and the whole region. The same rotten imperialist system that bombs Tehran leaves families here without homes or healthcare. We demand an immediate halt to the strikes, an end to British and Irish complicity and an end to every arms contract that turns our workplaces into cogs in a war machine.”
