Carroll to Hilary Benn: Stop Watching as Sodexo Slashes Jobs at Your Own Front Door

"A company that operates in 45 countries and made over £1 billion in profit last year? They are not short of resources to guarantee secure and well-paid jobs. The receptionists, cleaners, porters and kitchen workers? Sodexo is treating them disgracefully." Gerry Carroll MLA

Speaking ahead of today's PCS strike, Gerry Carroll said:

"Erskine House is the seat of the British government in the north. Is the Secretary of State, Hilary Benn, content to sit back and watch as a multi-billion pound company like Sodexo threatens workers with compulsory redundancies, job amalgamations and cuts to their hours? This is a company that operates in 45 countries and made over £1 billion in profit last year. They are not short of resources to guarantee secure and well-paid jobs.”

"The receptionists, cleaners, porters and kitchen workers are the people who keep this building running each and every day. Without them, the doors don't open. Sodexo is treating them disgracefully.”

"These workers are striking to defend their jobs, protect their incomes and to make sure the services they provide stay safe, professional and reliable. Sodexo must reverse these cuts immediately. The First Minister and Deputy First Minister can’t stay silent - they must put pressure on the Secretary of State to intervene and protect the jobs of the very people who maintain his own office.

"I urge everyone to come down and show their support for these essential workers today at 12pm outside Erskine House."
