Calls On DLR Leisure To Review Their Price Increases

People Before Profit councillor calls on DLR Leisure to review their price increases after members of the gyms receive a notification of 30% price increases

People Before Profit councillor Melisa Halpin has called on DLR Leisure, who run the gyms and pools across Dún Laoghaire Rathdown, to review an e-mail that has gone out to members of their gyms stating that those who have full membership and who pay a monthly direct debit will see their monthly payment rise by €10 to from €35 to €45.

Cllr Halpin said: “This represents a 30% increase and is excessive, especially considering the necessity of gyms and pools for people’s mental health and physical fitness.

“It is particularly outrageous that this increase would be foisted on people at a time when the necessity of gyms and pools have been recognised by so many of us as we had to do without them for the vast majority of time over the last 18 months.

“A 30% increase is completely over the top when many people have lost a lot of income during the pandemic and pay rises are in the low single figures if they exist at all.

“At our council meeting last night I raised this issue and it was agreed that clarity would be sought from DLR Leisure by the Council management and if the increase is indeed 30%, there will be a meeting with DLR Leisure and a delegation of councillors.  I would hope to attend this meeting and would look for this increase to be reversed.”
