Israeli occupation forces have murdered at least six Palestinians during a daytime raid on the West Bank City of Jenin. Eleven others were injured, two seriously.
Israel has adopted a new more brutal procedure during its raids. This has been called a ‘pressure cooker’ procedure and involves a form of extra-judicial execution. Israeli forces fire progressively more powerful weapons at a targeted building in an effort to force those inside to surrender. If they refuse to do so, they demolish the building, killing all inside.
The procedure was used during a raid in Nablus last month where eleven Palestinians were killed. During the raid in Jenin, they fired anti-tank missiles at the building.
While people in Ukraine rightly resist a Russian invasion, Palestinian people face an Israeli army that is armed by the US. In 2022, US aid to Israel amounted to €130 billion.
Unlike Russia, Israel benefits from two key agreements with the EU. These are an EU-Israel Association agreement which came into effect in 2000 and an Action Plan signed in 2005. None of these agreements allows for any recognition of Israel’s role as a colonial occupier.
So much for talk about defending ‘freedom’ and ‘democracy. It is a case of blatant double standards.
