In 2015, I was co-opted onto Sligo County Council after the passing of my father Seamus. This was a big challenge for me, but one that I was honoured to accept on behalf of the people of Sligo. From a young age I have volunteered with many local sporting and community projects and clubs. Growing up in a working-class area I have also seen the devastation caused by this government and previous governments including the blatant disregard for the rights and needs of ordinary people.
People Before Profit was set up to work with local communities to challenge the political status quo. We believe in people power and since 2014 PBP has spearheaded Right2Water in the town, played a leading role in the Marriage Equality campaign and stood with women on the issue of abortion. Last year, I was proud to put the first motion supporting the Repeal of the 8th in the country. Now our focus is on winning housing for all.
